Blood groupsTypical school simulation which is really suitable for Science learning. Real implementation into lesson plans is described bellow. Blood groups Science - Human biology Age: up to 13 Name of learning object: Blood groups – Transfusion URL: http://nobelprize.org/educational_games/medicine/landsteiner up to 1 lessons (45 minutes) (alteration are mentioned bellow) Milan Hausner Junior Language School, Prague, Lupacova, Czech Republic www.veskole.cz, www.lupacovka.cz Keywords: Science, Human body, blood, blood groups, animation, simulation, flash Licence: according to copyrights on www.nobelprize.org Possible methodological use of LO a) Simulation of real life situation of transfusion with complex explanation of blood group principle and their meaning for blood transfusion. b) Teacher presentation with online simulation (max 20 min), c) Student’s working sheets with examples of blood testing (teacher uses interactive whiteboard and with markers draws and writes explanation comments directly to simulation) d) Students do virtual transfusion based on their worksheets showing their understanding of antibodies and antigens. Simulation allows multiple tries which motivates them in the case of failure. Success is measured by blood drops. All of these steps will take maximally 30 minutes of a lecture time. e) Simulation is available for kids also at home as a Computer aided learning tool (because of flash animation freely available) which gives to this learning object another quality: it can be played simultaneously, again and again. It means it can be used also for home repetition, feedback as well as an aid for absent kids during lessons. f) Retention of knowledge can be measured by various methods (oral feedback, using simulation for repetition, summing up and so on), but also by online tests (or by voting system equipment). Feedback questionnaire can be also set as a selfevaluation test for students to confirm their own understanding of a topic. |
