Assesment Rubrics

by Teemu Leinonen — last modified 2008-06-19 11:41

Assesment rubric is an assesment method for both students self and teacher's assesment. The idea is to make the assesment criteria transparent before starting the study work.

The actual assement rubric is a paper sheet - often some kind of table - explaining what topics and issues will be considered in the assesment. This paper will be given for the students in the beginning of the study work.

Giving the rubric for students already in the beginning makes it possible for students to self-regulate their study work and focus on those issues that will be assessed. The old management truth "you get what you measure" is behind the idea of assesment rubric. In this method the assesment criterias are made transparent for all.
